This PIR sensor system was designed to work with the cage height extension on optogenetic mice where the fiber cable may adversely affect data that can be collected from a running wheel. The primary goal was to get locomotor activity and have it compatible with the Clocklab system. 

By using a PIR sensor with a custom PCB the sensor can be powered with a common 12VDC power supply, while also maintaining the 5V output that is needed for Clocklab. Paired with a custom 3D printed housing, this sensor system is easy to securely mount and ensures accurate data collection
