Costs

Selecting the correct materials will impact costs. 3D printing is still the most effective way to produce prototypes.

Materials

The most common and cheapest is PLA, but we can print ASA, Nylon and more  depending on the needs.

What material should I use?

There are numerous kinds of plastics being used for 3D printing. Each have properties that make them best suited for specific projects. We typically use 3 main types.

1 - PLA. This is a low cost, no-warping, biodegradable plastic great for many prototypes. It is not good for use in high temperature or UV environments. It does absorb moisture

2 - ASA. A temperature stable and UV + chemically resistant  plastic. Great for harsh or outdoor conditions. It is a more expensive option.

3 - PAHT-CF. This is a water resistant, high temperature, carbon fiber infused nylon ideal for products that need high strength and high temperature tolerances or where abrasive resistance is required. Again, a more expensive option.

What we need to start

I have a design

The fastest way to get a cost estimate for 3D printing is to provide a design file. There are 2 main types used and we can accept both. The 3MF and STL formats.

Most design software apps will provide an export of the model in one of these 2 formats.

All projects start with a design. this might be a design you already have, or just a sketch and an idea. We can help refine that into clear requirements that we all agree to. Once we have the design requirements we can begin modelling and iterating through versions to get to a final product design.

Simultaneously, any computer control or electronics will be developed to integrate with the final prototype product.

FAQ

  • As soon as we have an STL or 3MF file we can determine exactly how long it will take to print. We utilize high end, high speed printers, so you are not paying for slow equipment.

    Answer

  • Yes, depending on the type of material we can offer a variety of colors. If we do not have it in stock we can get it without much delay.

    Answer

  • Yes - the prototype process and finished product is from design through operational completeness.

    Answer

  • We would be willing to discuss large volume discounts with you.

    Answer

  • Yes we can. It does not have to be part of a complete prototype design. We can do a single part print or multiple if needed.
